Abstract

The population of old galactic neutron stars is computed for model galactic potential and initial neutron star velocity distribution following from binary system evolution scenario. The neutron stars are supposed to get their initial velocities during (asymmetric) supernova explosion of a single massive ( tex2html_wrap_inline145 ) star or a massive component of a binary system. Old neutron star population is shown to be capable of filling a thorus-like area going up to a few tens kiloparsecs above the galactic plane. Statistical tests appropriate to the problem of gamma-ray burst space distributions are carried out for the obtained distribution.

Key words: pulsars - old neutron stars - space distribution - gamma-ray bursts
