Abstract

The interaction between a chaotic electromagnetic radiation and free plasma electrons is studied with a view toward its importance to astrophysical problems, in particular to the theory of establishment of thermodynamic equilibrium of radiation in the hot universe. A kinetic equation describing the behavior of the spectrum is derived. Particular attention is given to induced scattering and to the classical interpretation of induced energy and momentum transfer. It is shown that in the spectrum of radio sources having high brightness temperatures, induced scattering may lead to Bose-condensation of photons and to the generation of shock waves and solitons.
