Abstract

The structure and evolution of the interface between a hot and cold gas as determined by the effect of volume energy losses and nonlinear heat conductivity are considered. It is shown that in the absence of heat sources, a temperature drop of the entire hot phase is accompanied by a cooling wave which transforms the hot gas into the cold phase. A series of self-similar solutions for the heat conductivity equation describing both thermal and cooling waves is analyzed. The problem of the evolution of the cold gas cloud moving through hot gas is discussed. The astrophysical applications of the results are examined.
