Abstract

The features of present-day cosmology are reviewed. The similarities and differences between a chemical explosion and the big bang are examined. Attention is given to the initial conditions for the big bang and to the concept of gravitational repulsion. Some considerations relating to the distant future of the universe are presented, with reference to the concept of a closed universe, missing mass, and the inflationary theory.
