Abstract

An investigation is made of the generation and properties of a magnetic field that grows exponentially with time in a given steady velocity field (the kinematic dynamo) at high magnetic Reynolds numbers. It is shown that, as the conducting fluid moves on an arbitrary family of steady surfaces, the growth rate of the field can be either negative or positive, but tending to zero as the magnetic Reynolds number tends to infinity.
